Newborn Session Preparation Guide

Thank you for choosing Theresa Elvin Photography for your newborn photoshoot session - I'm really excited to meet you and your new baby. This information is to help you to prepare for your session.

I will have secured two possible dates for your photoshoot based on your due date. We will aim for your session to take place between your baby being 4 and 14 days old, when they're more sleepy and maintain curled up positions. Your session will take place in my home studio.

The session will include:

  • Up to three hours in the studio;

  • Your images presented to you as proofs in a password protected online gallery;

  • 20-30+ hand edited and retouched images to select from for ordering;

  • At least two complimentary 10x8 professionally printed, strut mounted images (plus extras depending on which package you have chosen)

I recommend that you keep your baby awake for as long as possible prior to your session and feed them just before you leave home so your little one is nice and sleepy for your shoot. Also be prepared to offer them a small top up once you arrive and have undressed baby. It is best to dress them in a simple button up baby grow with no vest underneath, as this makes the undressing of them at the time of the shoot a lot easier.

If you would like photographs with older siblings, please try to arrange for them to come towards the end of the photoshoot (at least 90 minutes in) so they don't have to sit through the whole session.

As we want to create a relaxing atmosphere to settle your baby, please can only immediate family attend the session. My house isn't large enough to accommodate lots of guests!

Suggested items to bring with you:

  • If you are bottle feeding, please have extra bottles of milk or two! Babies do tend to feed more during newborn sessions

  • Soother (dummy), even if your baby only takes it sometimes, please bring it along. If can sometimes help in between poses

  • Extra nappies and wipes

  • A blanket or two - I'll have some too but baby will like their own blankets to sooth them when feeding or between poses

  • Clothing for the session is not necessary. I will use nappy covers, baby hats, wraps as well as other items

  • Clothing for older siblings is best kept plain in natural or pastel colours

  • Toys and snacks for older siblings if they have to stay for the whole photoshoot

  • The studio is kept very warm for your baby, so you may be better wearing layers as you'll probably end up stripping off!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions - I'm really looking forward to meeting you!
